No More Eating For Two

The first advice that most pregnant women would get is to start eating for two. Well, they won’t be hearing this anymore as researches now show that overeating during pregnancy can impact the baby’s health adversely.

According to doctors, women who overeat during pregnancy can expose her unborn baby to numerous health problems. It is during pregnancy that you should be more careful of what you eat. The thing is you must include some nutrients that are vital for your baby’s development but that doesn’t mean you need to eat as much as possible. You must watch what you are eating and make sure your diet provides adequate vitamin and minerals for the growth of your baby. Instead of eating more, you must eat well.

When you are pregnant, you of course eat for the nourishment of your baby. What you consume will decide the health of your baby. The baby gets its nourishment from the mother through the umbilical cord. If the mother lacks any vitamin or mineral, the baby might lack them also. You must provide the nutrients that you’re growing baby needs which do good for your body as well.

In the first three months, you need to have extra folic acid along with a well balanced diet. A diet that is rich in iron and calcium is also recommended. Include fish in your diet as they are very good for your baby’s growth. If you are a vegetarian then have those prenatal vitamins which has omega 3 in it.

Lastly, along with your healthy diet, include prenatal vitamins. A prenatal vitamin is a specially formulated multivitamin which makes up for any nutritional gap in the diet. The prenatal vitamin supplements contain right amount of vitamins and minerals and iron. Folic acid and calcium contents are also important.
